THE BIG STORY:
New CBAs For Akima and IAP
On 16 and 17 July 2008 officers of TWU Local 527 along with International Representative Gary Shults and Consultant Ed Hill negotiated tentative new Collective Bargaining Agreements with Akima Facilities Management LLC and IAP World Services Inc. For weeks our contract review team worked countless hours on the terms of these new CBAs to make sure all our needs and concerns and needs were addressed. As result of their hard work the union was successful in obtaining changes and additional benefits that are sure to be appreciated by all.
Some of these changes include a 3.75% per year increase of hourly wage rate, an additional personal leave per year, additional days to apply for job bids and the possibility of modified work schedules.
Both CBAs were ratified by vote of the union members on 28 July 2008 by a count of 73 to 0 for Akima and by 40 to 2 for IAP. In all, the negotiations were a great success for everyone.
Great thanks for a job more than well done is owed and given to our Union brothers and sisters who worked so hard on the contract review and negotiations. These brothers and sisters are:
Elizabeth Kelly, Akima Transportation Inspector
Jay Johnson, IAP Fire Alarm Systems Mechanic
Paul Lockwood, IAP Maintenance Welder

Darrell Withrow, Akima Electronics Tech III and Shop Steward
Lauren Lawrence, Akima Lead Supply Tech
Veronika Washington, Akima Hazmat Shipper Receiver and Union Secretary/Treasurer
Richard Thompson, IAP Stationary Engineer and Union Vice President
and Ben Morgan, TWU Local 527 President.
